How this timer works

A clear voice reads each step's cue as it begins; every cue is written out below. There is no ticking. The last five seconds of every step are counted out loud. A chime marks each change of step. It closes with “Time's up.”

1. Lower the eggs

   Water at a gentle boil. Lower the eggs in on a spoon so they do not crack.

   Six minutes for a runny yolk. Keep the boil gentle, do not let it rage.
